H. Noble and Son Funeral Directors started their business at 314 N. Main St. in Mitchell around 1908. By 1929, there were three generations of the Noble family actively involved in the business, H. Noble, D.J. Noble and Darwin and Harvard Noble. They were in three locations during the life of the business with the last being on 15th Street and Main. The Noble Funeral Home was a prime business for many years in Mitchell from the 1900’s into the 1960’s.
The Schenk Noble Murphy Funeral Home that was located at 1421 North Main Street (previously US Bank). In 1961, Noble Funeral Home relocated its business to 1421 N. Main and in 1963 they sold the business to Floyd Schenk and John Murphy of Yankton. Wilmsmeyer Funeral Home was owned for a short time by Melvin Wilmsmeyer. In September of 1974 Denny and Sheri Will took over operations, changing the name to Will Funeral Chapel. Ground breaking ceremonies were held at the new location which would be the first business on the newly created Green Drive. The new facility began operation on January 1, 1976. Denny would later purchase the Montgomery Funeral Home in Alexandria in July of 1981.
In the early 2000’s, Will Funeral Chapel transitioned to employee ownership. Today both Terry Rietveld and Kyle Pospisil strive to provide the same great service to the community today that has been provided for the last century
