Obituary

Janell Adams, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan 3, 2023 under the compassionate care of the Dougherty House in Sioux Falls. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 4013 North Main in Mitchell, South Dakota.  A special celebration of Jan's life will follow at the Moose Lodge, 516 W. 15 th

Jan was born on December 26, 1936 in Huron, South Dakota to Robert and Juanita Van Tour.  The family moved to Minneapolis where she lived until 1944 at which time they moved back to Huron.  Jan graduated from Huron High School and was married to Tony Adams in 1954.  They lived in various small towns in South Dakota where Tony taught and coached.  In 1960 they moved to Mitchell where Jan was a stay at home mom raising 5 children as well as spending time volunteering and serving on advisory boards at Brady Memorial Home and JVCC.  Jan loved living in Mitchell and was an active member of the community.  She especially enjoyed leadership positions with PTA, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, and Kernels Booster Club. Jan was an avid sports enthusiast as she attended innumerable Kernel and DWU Tiger games over the years.  One of the highlights of Jan and Tony's life together was when they were able to spend winters in Arizona with friends and family.

Jan is survived by her five children; Peggy Brooks (Larry) of Sioux Falls, SD, Joni Wegehaupt (Mark) of Sioux Falls, SD,  Terry Adams (Lindsay) of Firestone, CO, Trish Aadland (Lorne) of Lake City, SD and Kyle Adams of Knoxville, TN.  Her grandchildren include Cory Aadland, Jenna (Brooks) McChesney, Nicholas Aadland, Laura (Brooks) McCord, Tara (Wegehaupt) Behrens, Riley Aadland, Courtney (Adams) Rhoades, Carly (Adams) Mowery, Jake Brooks, Tyler Wegehaupt, Christian Adams, Lucas Adams, Lauren (Adams) O'Grady, Faith Adams.  She is also survived by her sister Darlene Van Tour, Huron, SD and 24 great grandchildren with two expected in June.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Juanita, her husband Tony, and sister Jackie along with many sisters and brothers in law.
