William Lawrence Tietz Sr., 87, of Mitchell passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.  A visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2022 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Will Funeral Chapel.

William was born November 9, 1934 in Alexndria, SD to William L. and Annie Pearl (Schillenger) Tietz. As a child he helped work on the farm while attending school.  He briefly lived in rapid City with his parents before moving to Mitchell.  When William was only 19 years old, he met the woman he would spend the rest of his life with, Helen Nelson, and married her on August 5, 1954.  They raised four children together.

William worked at Anderson farm. He and Helen managed a bar in Loomis. Later he owned his own garbage hauling business he would haul garbage during the day, haul gravel in the evening during the summer months and snow during the winter months. His final job was doing maintenance repairs for Motel 6.

William enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching wrestling.  He truly loved spending time in his garage. His children always knew, more often than not, that is where their dad would be, working on projects, or just relaxing.

William is survived by his wife; Helen, children; William (Kathy) Tietz Jr., Larry (Robin) Tietz, Renee Tietz (Heather Dutcher), many many grandchildren as well as great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, a son, Ricky Tietz, two grandchildren and a great grand daughter
