William Stainbrook, age 97, of Mitchell died Wednesday May 29, 2013 at Avera Brady Health & Rehab. Funeral services will be at 2:00 Monday, June 3, at the Will Funeral Chapel, with burial at the Milltown Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00-2:00pm Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel prior to the service. William Alvin Stainbrook was born on February 13, 1916 on the family homestead Northwest of Milltown, South Dakota. He was the son of Andrew (Bubby) Stainbrook and Hattie Mabel (Harrington) Stainbrook. William (Bill) Stainbrook grew up on the family farm and lived there until the age of 23. He was united in marriage to Carol Heloise Watson on September 12, 1939 at the Milltown United Brethren parsonage. Bill farmed until moving to Mitchell in 1950. He worked for the Mitchell Hatchery and drove a bread delivery truck before becoming a custodian at the Mitchell Senior High School. He was the Custodian for 12 years before becoming the Maintenance Engineer. He worked as the Maintenance Engineer for 17 years.In his retirement he started a small Scissors/Blade sharpening business. He was a Charter member of the First Reformed Church. Bill was a quiet, soft spoken man who put family above everything in his life. He could fix or build just about anything. He loved farming and gardening, but also enjoyed refinishing furniture and carpentry projects. He took great pleasure in fishing with his son Daniel. He is survived by 3 children; Cheryl (Austin) of Sioux Falls, SD, Bonnie (Van Dam) of Norwalk, IA, and Daniel Stainbrook of Mitchell, SD, 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to LifeQuest.
