William "Bill" Runge age 70, of Mitchell passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at his home. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
William "Bill" Floyd Runge was born to Floyd and Gladys (Dethlefsen) Runge on September 13, 1948, in Kimball, South Dakota. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1967. Bill married the love of his life, Helen (Renken), on Valentine's Day in 1970. They were blessed with three children: William (Billy), Christine, and Lori.
He spent the majority of his career working side by side with his best friend/dad, Floyd, installing floor covering. Bill loved the great outdoors of fishing and camping. He and Helen took many memorable trips to the beautiful Black Hills and Hawaii. They also took other trips throughout the country and enjoyed travelling to visit their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid bowler and bowled on several leagues in Mitchell. He especially enjoyed bowling with his wife and his dad. He was a skillful carpenter and built numerous homes for his family throughout his life. His other hobbies included: riding motorcycle, playing basketball with his grandchildren, and playing cards. He was a man who was young at heart and had a huge zest for life. He was a well loved community member and known for helping others and having a kind heart. Bill loved to visit and was able to make conversation with anyone. He had a huge infectious personality with a wonderful sense of humor.
Bill is survived by his wife, Helen; children: Christine (Jeffrey) Juhnke, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Lori (Jonathan) Olegario, Mitchell; nine grandchildren: Angela (Craig) Feenstra, Andrew (Alyssa) Hofer, Garret Hofer and Taylor Carpentier, Noah Juhnke and Ana Vanegas, Jacob Juhnke, Abby Juhnke, Caden Olegario, Oliver Olegario, Malia Olegario, and three great-grandchildren: Brianna, Bella, and Brody Feenstra; one sister, Susan (Dick) Pibal, Pierre; two brothers, Dan (Marcia) Runge, Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Dennis Runge, Mitchell; mother-in-law, Esther Renken, Mitchell; sister-in-law, Mary (Terry) Nutter, Mitchell; brother-in-law, Robert (Mary) Renken, Gillette, Wyoming; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Gladys Runge; his son William "Billy" Runge; his sister Sharon Hollister; and his niece Beth Runge.
