William King, age 83, of Mitchell, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at his home in Mitchell. Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, September 24 at the American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

William was born on September 27, 1926 on a farmstead near Alexandria, S.D. to Carl and Marie (Buchholz) King. William attended school in Fulton, S.D.
On January 11, 1957, William was united in marriage to Oma Fay Thome in Chamberlain, S.D. William and Oma made their home in Mitchell, S.D. to where they raised seven children. William enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed tinkering with cars, tractors, making furniture out of wood, hunting, fishing and attending auctions. He was a heavy equipment operator for a construction company most of his life.
William R. King was in the Korean War October 14, 1950 to July 17, 1952. He was in the 2nd Division of 9th Infantry Regiment Co. "E". He received a Combat Infantry Badge - Distinguished Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, w/4 Bronze Campaign Stars.
Grateful for having shared his life are 5 daughters: Gwen Sefrna of Rapid City, S.D.; Judy (Bill) Hoff of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Linda Thome of Mitchell, S.D.; Paulette (Mike) Hoffman of Rapid City, S.D.; Penny (Doug) Hohbach of Letcher, S.D; and a son Robert (Lorraine) King of Artesian, S.D.; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; three sisters: Eva Mikkelson of Aberdeen, SD; Marion Wibben of Ipswich, S.D.; Ruth (Stan) Lassegard of Ames, IA and many nieces, nephews and friends.
William was preceded in death of his loving wife Oma (2000), a son James (1976), two sisters Mabel and Bessie, three brothers, John, Warren and Samuel.
