William "Bill" Heintz, age 84,of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at his home under hospice care. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at New Home Lutheran Cemetery in rural Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

William Marion Heintz, son of Louis and Minnie (Corrington) Heintz, was born April 2, 1933 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up in Mt. Vernon and attended school at Mitchell High School. After his schooling, Bill entered the US Air Force on May 7, 1951 and served as a military policeman. He was honorably discharged on May 6, 1955 and returned to Mitchell.

While in Mitchell, Bill began his career with the Mitchell Police Department. He was united in marriage with Judith Kay Holborn on January 2, 1960 in Mitchell, SD. Bill retired from the Mitchell Police Department in the early 1970's after 18 years of service. He then served as the Child Support Officer in Mitchell for 20 years retiring in 1996.

In his retirement he enjoyed driving, traveling and watching old military and western movies.

Bill was a member of the Congregational Church in Mitchell.

Grateful for having shared his life are his two sons, Michael (Laurie) Heintz, Sioux Falls, SD, Jason (Cheri Davis) Heintz, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Jamon Harberts, Zachary Heintz, Derrick Heintz and Cassie Heintz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Heintz; his parents; two sisters, Veronica Jemmings and Lois Kapsch.
