Willard C. L. Bill Ryberg, 91, of Mitchell, SD, died Dec. 26, 2005 in Las Cruces, NM. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD. Burial will be prior to the service in Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Bill was born March 8, 1914 to John Peter and Mathilda (Rundquist) Ryberg at Dawson, Minnesota. He graduated from Montevideo Central High School June 1, 1933. On June 12, 1938, he married Joyce Haugen. They resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota until 1944. That year Bill and his brother, John, bought a caf in Mitchell, which was known as Rybergs Caf. In 1954, they sold the caf and Bill went to work for Ace Dry Goods Company of Sioux City, Iowa. He retired from Ace Dry Goods on January 1, 1979. He was extremely active in the Mitchell community. He coached Golden Glove Boxing from 1946 to 1956. He was an avid supporter of Mitchell High School, Dakota Wesleyan University and amateur athletes. He was the Past Nobel Grand of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Past Grand Councilor of the UCT and Past State President of the South Dakota Restaurant Association. He was a life member of the UCT, Elks Lodge 1059 and a charter member of the Mitchell Moose Lodge. Bill was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell for over 60 years where he served as a trustee for the church. Survivors include a son, Jan and his wife, Jacalyn, Las Cruces, NM and two grandchildren, Chad and Michelle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, daughter, Pamela Jean, parents and two brothers, John and Willard Franklin.
