Wilfred Kurtenbach, age 86, of Dimock, died Thursday May 27, 2004 at Avera Borman Manor in Parkston. Funeral services were held at 10:00AM Monday at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Dimock with burial in the church cemetery. Wilfred Kurtenbach was born April 30, 1918 at rural Dimock, SD to John and Elizabeth (Mayer) Kurtenbach. He attended parochial grade school in Dimock and was a lifetime resident of the Dimock area. Wilfred was united in marriage with Marie Puetz on November 21, 1940 in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock, SD. They farmed in the Dimock area until retiring when they moved into Dimock. He was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church his entire life. He was also a member of the Mitchell Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. Wilfred served on the township board, Ethan Lumberyard Board, South Dakota Co-op Breeders Association Board, Minnesota Valley Breeders Association Board, the Parkston Rural Fire Department Board and the Ethan Trail Riders. He was a member of the Parkston Knights of Columbus since 1936 and served as an usher in the church since 1953. He is survived by his wife, Marie, Dimock, SD; four sons, Dale Kurtenbach and his wife, Mary, Prairie Village, KS, Vilas Kurtenbach and his wife, Margo, Dimock, SD, Darwin Kurtenbach and his wife, Rosemary, Dimock, SD, Daniel Kurtenbach and his wife, Linda, Dimock, SD; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four sisters, Marcelline Weiss and her husband, Bill, Parkston, SD, Eva Scheetz and her husband, Everett, Minneapolis, MN, Alice Laber and her husband, Gerad, Aurora, CO, Rita Huffman and her husband, Carl, Cheyanne, WY; five brothers, Aelred Kurtenbach and his wife, Irene, Brookings, SD, Frank Kurtenbach and his wife, Jean, Brookings, SD, Denis Kurtenbach and his wife, Colleen, Paola, KS, Dewayne Kurtenbach, Sahuatita, AZ, Ivan Kurtenbach and his wife, Chi Chi, Rochester Hills, MI. Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marie Walz and Magdalene Kabeiseman; and a brother Jack.
