Wilbert C. Hofer, age 91 died Tuesday February 9, 2021 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 PM.

Wilbert C. Hofer, son of Joe J. and Justina (Wipf) Hofer was born July 16, 1929 in Bridgewater, SD. After his schooling, Wilbert farmed with his father full time. He then worked at the Alexandria Quarry in the late 1940's and met Thelma Ann Blankenship. The couple was united in marriage on January 11, 1951.

They started their married life south of Alexandria, SD and began farming. Wilbert was also working at Johnny's Station in Bridgewater, SD. In the late 1950's they continued farming southeast of Mitchell, SD. In 1963 they purchased a farm east of Mitchell and were there until 1972 when they moved to Pineview Hall. Wilbert farmed, ran the Hall, and worked at Trail King until the fall of 1985, when they retired to town. Wilbert continued to work until he retired in 1994. He never really retired fully, he worked odd jobs for many years thereafter.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 70 years, Thelma; their five children, Dennis (Linda Kahler) Hofer of Mitchell, SD, Ila (Jeff) Gordon, Sioux Falls SD, Brian (Julie) Hofer, Mitchell, SD, Mark (Teresa) Hofer, Hartford, SD and Brenda McCallan, St. Louis, MO; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three sisters, Pearl (Duane) Duba, Ethan, Rose Larson, Sioux Falls, SD, Carol (Tom) Brown, Rapid City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Bryan and Lucille Blankenship; a sister, Mabel Voss; two brothers, Alvin and Joseph; a great grandson, Elliot Mier; a grandson in law, Travis Mier; two brothers in law, Bill Voss and Carl Larson; and a sister in law, Norma Hofer.
