Obituary

Wendel Northrup, age 70, of Wessington Springs, died Monday, October 16, 2006, at his home in Wessington Springs. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, October 20, at the Will Funeral Chapel with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Wendel was born on July 7, 1936, to Clarence and Edna (Hutton) Northrup in Mitchell. He grew up on the family farm and continued to help until moving to Freeman. Wendel lived in Freeman for 5 years before starting with the railroad. He lived in many locations, from Oklahoma to finishing his career in South Dakota. He then settled in Woonsocket for many years. He moved again to Wessington Springs where he was working for Jack Links. Wendel enjoyed traveling, especially his Alaskan cruises, also antique collecting and flea marketing, along with the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and enjoying time with his nieces and nephews. He was also very active in the Freeman Lions Club. He is survived by his mother, Edna Knutson of Mitchell, a brother, Glen (Kay) of Letcher, many nieces and nephews and friend, Aileen Houwman, of Wessington Springs. He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother Galen Northrup.
