Wayne H. Morris age 99, of Mitchell died Monday, June 22, 2015 at Firesteel Health Care Center. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, June 26, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Burial will be in Serviceman's Memorial Cemetery with military rites. Wayne Herman Morris was born September 7, 1915 to Fred and Ida (Sandmark) Morris in Mitchell. The family moved to a farm near Ethan where Wayne attended country school and graduated from high school. He traveled around working for other farmers after graduation. Wayne enlisted in the Army in June of 1941 and served in WWII. He was a rifle expert with the 160th infantry and was in the Southern Philippines and Luzon and was discharged in 1944. He returned to the states and married his sweetheart Lois Williamson on June 22, 1945. They moved to the family home place to farm and raise two children, after 43 years of farming they moved to Mitchell and worked for Mitchell Livestock until he was 91. Wayne loved horses and was still riding on his 90th birthday. He was a member of the First united Methodist Church in Ethan and later Mitchell, lifelong member of the Ethan Trail Riders and 70 year member of the American Legion. Grateful to have shared his life are his children Lynda (Ron) LaFortune; Dean Morris and special friend Sheryll Michael of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren Pam (LaFortune) (Bill) Wittstruck, Char (LaFortune) (Tony) Brink, Mike (Jo) LaFortune all of Mitchell, Melanie (LaFortune) Danilko of Middletown, MD, Wesley (Christy) Morris of St. Louis, MO and Wendy (Morris) (Mike) Brooks of Sallisaw, OK; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister Mary Jane (Morris) Kiner and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois; two sisters Virginia and Marjorie; a brother Fred.
