Vivian L. McElroy, age 81, of Mitchell died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 27, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial to follow at the American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with rosary beginning at 7:00PM. Vivian was born on March 31, 1925 in Lake Andes to Leo and Rachel (Montagne) OConnor. She was raised in Lake Andes and graduated from Lake Andes High School. After graduation she moved to Washington where she worked in the ship yards as a welder. She returned to Lake Andes and obtained her teachers certificate and taught school several years. She married William Clarence McElroy on May 18, 1946. They lived in Lake Andes, Marshalltown, IA and moved to Mitchell in 1962. She worked many years at Herters and retired from Shopko. She is survived by two daughters: Cheryl Jirsa, husband Ron, Mitchell, SD and Colleen Davis, husband Randy of Overland Park, KS; two sons: Darald McElroy, wife Joann of Rapid City, SD and Dan McElroy, wife Jody of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Sisters Maxine Nelson and Helen Brooks, husband Wayne of Lake Andes, SD She was preceded in death by her husband Willie, brothers Melvin, John, Rod, and sisters Ilene LaVallee and Bernice Minahan.
