Virginia Rae Skelly, 90, of Mitchell passed away Friday, August 6, 2021 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.  A private family service will be held at a later date.

Virginia was born May 24, 1931 to Herbert and Lottie Louise Butts in Oaks, ND. She attended Whittier and Mitchell High School.  Virginia later moved to Burbank, CA where she managed apartments for several years.  In 1965 she married Francis Skelly and moved to Las Vegas, NV where she worked for Welcome Wagon.  Virginia also worked at El Cortez Casino and Tax Corporation of America.  In 1974 she passed her real estate license exam and worked at Bar K Realty until 1979 when she and her husband returned to Mitchell.  The couple purchased the Moonlight Bar and Lounge and operated it until 2001.

Virginia was a 25-year member of the Senior Citizens, Ladies Auxiliary, and the Women of the Moose Lodge.  Her greatest pleasures in life were spending time with her husband and her family.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children; Debra Lynn Skelly Rath, Rick Oberembt, grandchildren; Trevor Rath, Kaitlyn Rath, Tarhea Rath, Shaun Oberembt, Jason Oberembt, Brandon Thorpe, Cassandra Thorpe, and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis in 2009, son, Brian Thorpe, sisters, Carrie Ella Brown, Bonnie Kormylo, Lola Oehlerking, brothers, Herbert Jr, Robert, Roger, and Charles.
