Obituary

Virginia Henglefelt, age 94, of Mitchell, SD (formally of Ethan, SD) died June 20th,2018 at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be held July 9th at 10:30 at the Ethan United Methodist Church in Ethan, SD with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery in Ethan. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, SD.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Will Funeral Home in Mitchell, SD.

Virginia Henglefelt was born to Walter C. and Ingeborg Nelson in Sioux Falls, SD on December 11, 1923.  She grew up and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls.

After graduating from high school, Virginia worked at Western Union Telegraph at the Sioux Falls Air Base Signal Office.  Later she worked at the Pentagon in Washington DC.  She eventually returned to Sioux Falls and worked at the Veterans Administration.  On March 4th, 1952 she married Ross Henglefelt and moved to the farm south of Ethan.  After the death of Ross, she retired to Ethan until 2017 when she moved to Country Side Living in Mitchell.

Viriginia loved being with her family but a close second was playing cards of any kind.  She also loved to knit and the last projects were knitting caps for newborns at the hospital. Traveling with her cousins to different parts of the United States was something very special for them.

Virginia is survived by her three children.  Linda (Jeff) Iverson of Lake Andes, SD; Robert (Linda) Henglefelt, of Ethan, SD, and Gary (Janet) Henglefelt of Scottsdale, Arizona.  She had 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Brigetta and Gloria Henglefelt, cousins, Margaret Koopsma, Vic Hanson plus many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, parents, father and mother-in-law, John and Flora Henglefelt, brother and sister-in-law Warren and Betty Nelson, brother in laws, Willis, Gene, Ken Henglefelt and sister in laws, Grace Wittstruck, Ruby Baker, and Donna Henglefelt; and cousin Margie Hanson.
