Virginia Mae Hemmah, age 73, of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday February 15, 2013 at the Will Funeral Chapel. A Prayer Service will be 7:00 PM Friday February 15, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD with a 2nd service 2:00 PM Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Veblen. Burial will be at the Veblen Cemetery. Virginia Vedder, daughter of Steve and Irene (Erickson) Vedder, was born November 22, 1939 in Veblen, SD. She grew up and attended school in Veblen. After her schooling Virginia was employed as a nannie in Claremont, SD. Virginia was united in marriage with Carmen Hemmah on October 18, 1957 in Webster, SD. The couple made their home on a farm near Claremont and later moved to Philip, SD for two years. They then moved back to Claremont where Virginia raised chickens and sold eggs. Carmen died in 1976 and Virginia moved to Veblen, SD and was employed at a nursing home in Sisseton, SD. She later moved to Mitchell. In Mitchell, she was employed at Syncom and Firesteel Healthcare Center. In May of 2008, Virginia became a resident at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Virginia loved to dance, play wist and yahtzee. She also enjoyed embroidering and cooking. She was member of First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD and a former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Melody (Calvin) Olson, Mitchell, SD, Carmen (Brenda) Hemmah, Salem, SD, Jim (Barb) Hemmah, Mitchell, SD, Marylce (Carl) Knock, Mitchell, SD; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Albert Vedder, Ortonville, MN; three sisters, Patty Kadown, Sioux Falls, SD, Karen (Roger) Loberg, Anoka, MN, Barb Staehnke, Ferndale, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmen Hemmah; her parents; a grandson; a granddaughter; and her in-laws, Rudolph and Bertha Hemmah.
