Virginia Rose Schoenfelder was born February 15, 1932, to Ferdinand (Barney) and Elizabeth (Kummer) Schoenfelder in Parkston SD. Virginia attended school in Parkston and later moved to Kennebec, SD, where she attended high school.  After high school graduation she attended Black Hills Teacher College in Spearfish, SD.

She taught in a country school north of Kennebec.   One day, a broken teeter totter steered her to the local lumber yard where she met her future husband, Jack Casey. That chance encounter started a romance that would last nearly 60 years. They married on April 11, 1953 and to this union they happily welcomed eight children.

Virginia spent her adult years living in Mitchell, with 57 of those years at the beloved family farm. She managed the retail portion of Casey's Gardens, both at the farm and at the local market stand.  Her dedication to the mantra "the customer always comes first" was instilled in every one of her children who represented the face of the family business.  She had high standards and expected that of anyone who stood behind the counter.

Virginia was an active volunteer in her church, where she belonged to the Catholic Daughters. She also enjoyed being a member of a wide variety of card clubs and coffee groups. She loved traveling, crafting, and playing BINGO. She cherished her family and friends above all else.  She always had a chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, or chex party mix to welcome you home for every family celebration. She had great enjoyment her final years in Omaha.  Many outings and family celebrations with her favorite frequent casino stops and visits to the Grill and 360 Restaurant, and Charlie's on the Lake. She enjoyed spending time at the Brookestone pond with many walks and fishing.  She was "GiGi" to her great-grandchildren (the little ones) and they brought special joy to her life.  Her newest "little one" arrived just a few hours after she left us.  Baby Rowan brings new life to her family.

One of her most recent challenges was in March of 2019 when she suffered a stroke, which resulted in her move from Mitchell to Omaha to reside at Brookestone Village. Her delightful spirit touched all who cared for her. We are forever grateful for their love and care that was extended to her every day by the Brookestone staff.

Virginia is survived by her children, Carol (Rich) Meyer of Omaha; Vikki Casey Steward of Chanhassen, MN; Pat (Mei) Casey of Singapore; Bruce Casey of Brandon; Brian Casey (Chris Jaekel) of Denver, CO; Mark (Mary) Casey of Omaha, NE and Linda (Jeff) McEntee of Mitchell; eleven grandchildren: Sean (Lindsey) Steward, Michael (Lindsay) Casey, Megan (Nick Woolger) Casey, Jonathan (Perla Garibay) Meyer, Joshua (Oksana Gutka) Meyer, Natalie Casey, Tyler (Kate) McEntee, Karlie (Ben) Higginbotham, Joe Meyer, Kyle Casey, and Jodi Casey; nine great-grandchildren: Tripp, Jack, Ben, Memphis, Adalynn, Maxwell, Noah, Timothy, and Rowan; brother Curly Schoenfelder, sister-in-law Joan Schoenfelder and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son Dan, brothers Clem and Dennis Schoenfelder, sister Anita Steinfeld, and two infant siblings, John and Jeanette.
