Virgil D. Larson, age 62 of Artesian, died Saturday, October 18, 2008 at his home as a result of a farm accident. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday October 22, 2008 at the Artesian Community Center with burial at South Spencer Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church in Artesian with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Services are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.
Virgil was born October 25, 1945 in Sioux Falls to Leslie and Vivian (Miller) Larson. He grew up and schooled in Sioux Falls and worked for an ice company. He married Sally Smith and made their home in Sioux Falls. Virgil was an amateur boxer, foreman for a commercial roofing company in Sioux Falls, an undercover drug agent, a bank courier, residential painter, security guard and coonhound hunter. He married Judi (Vinz) Hoffman on May 31, 1995 on the family farm and recently ranched until the time of his death.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Artesian and a member of the NRA. Virgil loved his family and grandchildren, hunting, animals and spending time laughing, joking with family and friends.
Grateful for sharing his life is his wife Judi of Artesian; children Krystle and husband Clint Richards of Sioux Falls, Dustin Hoffman and his children Darienne and Destini of Sioux Falls, Brandon Hoffman and his children Korbin, Kenzie and Blayde of Sioux Falls, Tamara Severtson and her children Tasha Carter and her children Ethan Alleyana and Ayvah; Kristopher Severtson and his children Evan, Nathan and Dillon; Justun, Dakota and Dillon Severtson of Locust, NC, Rick and wife Mary Larson and son Nicholas of Bastrop, TX,; step children Rodney and Sheila Larson; brothers Tom and wife Diane Larson of Sioux Falls, SD and Edwin Sparks of OR; sister Sandy Bowman of Clyde Park, MT; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Proceeded in death by his parents, brother Gerald Larson and sister Diane Hopenthal.
