Vienna "Grace" Calkins Vogel, 74 of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday May 23, 2012 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell after a brave fight with cancer. Memorial services will be at Resurrection Lutheran Church on Monday, May 28, 12:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, Ogden, UT at a later date. She was born to Seth R. and Blanche Calkins, in Burley, Idaho on March 31, 1938. She attended grammar and high schools in Burley, Idaho. Later on she attended schools to further her education in Ogden, UT and Rapid City, SD. On May 17, 1958 she married Larry Knight of Ogden, UT. They lived in Ogden, Saratoga, WY and Piedmont, SD. After 39 years of marriage, on July 31, 1997, his health failed and he passed away in Piedmont, SD. In 1999, she met her beloved best friend, Leland Vogel. In 2000, Grace retired from SCI in Rapid City so that she and Leland could travel. They were married June 11, 2004 in Mitchell, SD. They traveled to various western states but especially enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona. They spent a lot of time UTVing the desert and seeing the country, enjoying everything they did together. She was a member of her "adopted" church, Resurrection Lutheran Church and very much enjoyed Pastor John Hansen and the congregation. There are a lot of friends she met along the way that she loved and wants them to know. Grateful for having shared her life are her loving husband, Leland Vogel, brothers Floyd (Connie) Calkins and Melvin (Janet) Calkins, both of Boise, ID, step daughters Bobbi (Randall) Weber of Mitchell, SD and Lisa (Greg) Mathiowetz of Casper, WY, grandchildren, Colin Weber and Shannon Weber of Mitchell, SD and Kyra Mathiowetz of Casper, WY, and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Seth R. and Blanche Calkins, and two sisters, Audrey Garrard and Blanche Walton.
