Vernon "Bud" Hainy, age 90, of Mitchell, SD died Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Friday, November 20, 2020 at the American Legion Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

Vernon "Bud" Hainy, son of Charles and Viola (Ruml) Hainy, was born in rural Wessington Springs, SD on the family farm. He attended country school. After his schooling, Bud helped on the family farm.

Bud entered the US Army and served in Alaska. He was honorably discharge and returned to Mitchel, SD. He was united in marriage with Gladys Ludwig on June 21, 1952 in Mitchell, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell. While in Mitchell, Bud was employed at Hardware Supply (Plainsco), Bosworth Electric and later established Bud's Electric in the mid 1970's. He later was employed at the Village Bowl and Trail King doing maintenance at both businesses. After his retirement, Bud worked part time at Cabela's and later at Walmart. He retired again in 2014.

He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, the Optimist Club, the American Legion, Mitchell Area Gem and Mineral Club, the Moose Lodge and was in the Village Bowl Hall of Fame.

Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening and rock collecting.

Grateful for having shared his life are his two children, Marjorie (Jeffrey) Heidinger, Mitchell, SD and Chuck Hainy, Toledo, OH; four grandchildren; Trevor Heidinger, Lincoln NE, Tyler (Nikka) Heidinger, Lincoln,NE, Jeffrey (Kayla) Heidinger, Syrause, NE and Elizabeth Hainey, as well as two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; his parents; and his brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Betty Hainy.
