Verna A. Cooper age 90, of New Braunfels, TX formerly of Mitchell, died Friday May 8, 2009 in New Braunfels, TX.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am Friday June 12, 2009 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery.

Verna was born on January 19, 1919 to Fred and Ella (Goddicksen) Boeker in Armour, SD. Verna graduated from Stickney High School in 1938 and received her Bachelors degree from Dakota Weslyan (after years of night and summer school) in 1963. She also taught in a one-room school house near her parents farm. She married Keith Russell Cooper on July 13, 1943 at Camp Claiborne, LA. Verna was a longtime resident of Mitchell and taught at Longfellow School, teaching second grade from 1956 to 1974 and kindergarten until her retirement in 1984. Verna then moved to New Braunfels, TX in 2004. She was a person of unfailing kindness and was loved by all who knew her. She will be very much missed, but her family and friends celebrate and give thanks for her long and well-lived life.

Grateful for sharing her life are her sons, Joel of Sioux Falls, SD, James of Gig Harbor, WA; daughter Carla Cooper-Puetz and husband James of New Braunfels, TX; two grand daughters Anne Cooper of Mount Holly, NC, and Amy Kalafatich and husband Nick of Vaughn, WA; two step grand daughters Jami Talbert and husband Darrell of Bloomington, IN and Nicole Lidester of Westfield, IN and three great grandchildren; brothers Leonard Boeker and wife LuEtta of Fountain Hills, AZ, Irv Boeker of Lakewood, CO, Hal Boeker and wife Pat of Canon City, CO; sister Lola Breckenridge of Missoula, MT and sister-in-law, Elaine Boeker of Stickney, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband Keith in 1973, brother, Herbert Boeker in 2005.
