Verla A. Balding, 64, of Mitchell, died March 8, 2006 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 13, at the First Reformed Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Sunday at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial in Graceland Cemetery. She was born April 29, 1941, at Canova, SD to Reuben and June (Johnson) Zulk. She grew up in Canova and graduated from Canova High School in 1959. She was a cheerleader and enjoyed sports. She was active in church activities and sang and played organ and piano. She loved traveling with her family. She married Kenneth Beiswanger on October 10, 1959 at Luverne, MN. They made their home in Mitchell and she was employed at Sunshine Grocery for twenty-eight years. Kenneth died April 9, 1979. Verla married Gary Balding on June 27, 1981, at Mitchell. The couple made their home in Mitchell. She retired from Sunshine as assistant manager in 1994. She enjoyed spending time at their vacation home at West Witlock Bay. She loved to fish, cook and entertain, working with flowers, crafts, and spending time outdoors. She was a member of First Reformed Church and enjoyed Bible Study and volunteering at the church. She volunteered for Nutrition Meals, was a former member of the Sweet Adelines and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Park and Recreation Board. She is survived by her husband, Gary, Mitchell; and her children: Karen Weeldreyer and husband, Greg, Huron, Vicky Hohn, Mitchell, Terry Beiswanger and wife, Judy, Mitchell, Leah Christensen, Ethan, and Mike Balding and wife, Kathy, Holman, WI; her mother, June Zulk; thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a sister, Sharon Spilde, Hastings, MN and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth, her father, her son, Newt Balding, a sister, Beverly Brown, and her mother-in-law, Helen Balding.
