Vera E. Kilstrom, age 94, of Mitchell, SD, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Firesteel Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, January 17, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with burial at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Vera E. Kilstrom, daughter of Earl and Ruby (Hemminger) Hoffman, was born September 6, 1919 in Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA. She moved to the Mitchell area with her family as a young girl. Vera attended school in Davison County and later graduated from Mitchell High School. She was united in marriage with Oscar Kilstrom on March 2, 1941. Oscar was a square dance caller, and he and Vera seldom missed a Saturday night dance at the Moose Lodge. They were regulars at MHS and DWU basketball games. Vera worked nearly 30 years in the DWU Business Office. She was very involved in the First United Methodist Church and in the FUMC Quilters and Heartland Quilters. She enjoyed watching Twins baseball and the Denver Broncos. Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Sherrill (Kenny) Oathout, Lakewood, CO, Gary (Claudia) Kilstrom, San Antonio, TX, Daryl (Velda) Kilstrom, Mitchell, SD; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen (Bob) Bucknell, Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Kilstrom on October 24, 2003; her parents; three brothers, Marlin, Donald and Wesley Hoffman.
