Urban Red Hohn, son of Matthew and Lona (Mick) Hohn, was born September 2, 1925 in Dimock, SD. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He worked doing various farm hand jobs. In 1939 he made his home in Mitchell, SD. During the war effort he worked in Rozum Motors basement as a turret lathe operater and moonlighted driving for the Red Top Cab Company shuttling pilots and personnel from the airport into town.
Red was united in marriage with Bernice Kozel, on August 14, 1944 in Mitchell, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell. While in Mitchell, Red operated a moving company for 10 1/2 years and Redtop Cab for 2 years. He later was employed at Montgomery Wards for 11 years, as a Moorman Feed Salesman for 20 years, a school bus driver for 22 years and a Traveler Insurance Agent for 2 years.
Red was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golf, dancing, fast pitch softball and carpentry work.
Grateful for having shared his life are his four children, Sherril (Jim) Blair, Germantown, TN, Donna (Rich) VanLaecken, Brookings, SD, Vickie (Arlan) Muilenburg, Mitchell, SD, John Hohn, Mitchell, SD; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Whilmena (Millard) Hohn, Mitchell, SD, Priscilla (John) Bohr, Galt, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice E. Hohn on October 26, 2005; a grandchild; a great grandchild; seven brothers; two sisters; and his parents.
