Obituary

Tim Kummer, 59, of Mitchell passed away Thursday, March 12, 20, doing what he loved – checking his cows on the farm. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with a prayer service followed by a rosary service beginning at 7:30 PM.

Tim was born November 15 th , 1960, to Norman and Shirley (Degen) Kummer in Parkston. Tim was the third child of four. He graduated from Mitchell Votech in 1982.

He met his wife of 37 years, Lori Kaye Mann, through a mutual friend. They later married in Mitchell on June 5 th , 1982.

In 1982, the newlyweds briefly lived in Oklahoma before returning back to their home in Parkston. At that time, Tim worked at the Dakota Cheese Factory while helping maintain the family farm with his father Norm. He then worked at Muth Electric. With the support of his wife and family, he began his adventure of T.K. Electric in 1995.

Apart from his electrical career, Tim thrived in his passion for farming, on their hobby farm near Ethan, SD. He shared in this love with his five children and five grandchildren. He had a special bucket of cow food set aside for when the grandchildren would come to the farm to help Papa feed the cows. Tim never passed on an opportunity to help others and had a great sense of humor and out-going personality. He was a prankster who jokingly believed in "letting nature be." He made friends by handing out his famous jerky (with a hint of garlic), which earned him the nickname Tim "The Jerk Man" Kummer. He will forever be remembered for being a loving husband, father and friend.

Tim's legacy of love and spirit of helping others lives on in his wife, Lori; five children, Christopher (Darla) Kummer (Mitchell), Megan (Wade) Yada (Chadron, NE), Amber (Kevin) Powers (Papillion, NE), Nicholas Kummer and fiancé Alexandra Rausch (Brookings), and Benjamin Kummer (Brookings); two grandsons, Charlie and Henry Kummer; three granddaughters, Kinleigh and Leighton Yada, and Palmer Marylee Powers; three sisters, Sandra (Richard) Dewald (Yankton), Tammy Ehlke (Scotland), and Carrie (Rob) Heisinger (Parkston); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law (Harvey and Wilma Mann), and his sister-in-law (Marylee Hubschman).
