Joel D. Altstiel, 46, Hill City, formerly of Mitchell, died Saturday, October 9, near Nemo while riding his motorcycle. Memorial services will be 2:00pm Friday october15 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Viborg Cemetery. Joel was born August 29, 1058 in Viborg SD to Verne and Helen (Jensen) Altstiel. Joel married Jodi Schlaffman on August 19, 1980. Joel suffered from heart disease and died doing what he loved. He was formerly a mechanic at Honda of Mitchell, and was an instructor for the ATV safety course. He was also active in A.B.A.T.E. and the Christian Motorcycle Association where he was past chaplain for a time. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Mitchell and was attending the Little White Church in Hill City at the time of his death. He loved motorcycle riding, his family, his son Joshua and especially his Lord. Joel will be missed; loved and well remembered by all the lives he touched. A memorial has been established to the Christian Motorcycling Association. Survivors include his son Joshua of Mitchell, brothers Terry of Sturgis and Steve of Okinawa, Japan. One sister Shirley Friedrichson, Huron, also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents and a number of aunts and uncles.
