Obituary

Teresa Gere, age 86, of Mitchell, died July 30, 2006, at the Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 3, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery at Letcher. Teresa Madeline was born on August 22, 1919, to John and Maude (Devetter) Vermeulen on the family farm near Letcher. She attended Blanchard School in Butler township and graduated from Mitchell Senior High School. She continued to live on the farm while she worked for the WPA. Teresa was united in marriage with Donald Gere on Feb. 20, 1941. The couple farmed in Sanborn County until they retired and moved to Mitchell in October, 1994. She and Donald enjoyed dancing every Saturday night. Donald died in 1995 and Teresa continued to live in Mitchell. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. While living in Mitchell, she continued to enjoy her family and many friends and playing cards at the Senior Center and various other card groups. Teresa was grateful for having shared her life with her three children: Terry and his wife, Judy, Ortonville, MN, Denny and his wife, Mary of Pierre, SD, and Karen Clark and husband, Dick, of Olathe, KS; ten grandchildren: Suzanne Panch and husband, Bill, Mark Gere and wife, Linda, all of Ortonville, MN; Sarah Gillis and husband, Charles, of New Ulm, MN, Tom Gere and wife, Nikki, of Pierre, SD; Becky Fischer and husband, Ryan, Spearfish, SD, Heidi Samco, and husband, Stowe, Presho, SD; Rick Clark and wife, Alison, Todd Clark and wife, Lisa, all of Overland Park, KS; Melissa Clark, Prairie Village, KS, and Angela Kelley and husband, Ryan, Olathe, KS; twenty-one great grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Titus, and two sisters-in-law, Wilma Aulner and Phyllis Vermeulen. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Raphael, Bernard, Donald and Robert in infancy; one sister, Sylvia Morgan.
