Sylvester was born at Saint Joseph Hospital in Mitchell on January 21, 1917 to Nellie and Fred Krell of Whitelake, SD. Sylvester completed his grade school years at country school in Whitelake and graduated from Whitelake High School.  He moved with his parents to Mitchell in 1934.

He was employed by Rozum Ford Motor Company in Mitchell from 1936 until 1985 with almost four years of that time spent in the Army during World War II.  He was drafted into the United States Army on February 13, 1942 and was honorably discharged on December 1, 1945.  His military service was as a power plant operator.  He was stationed in England and Germany and served in the European Theatre of Operations for twenty months.

Upon discharge from the Army, Sylvester married Blanche Frost in Fort Pierre, SD on December 18, 1945.  They had three children, David, Judith, and Barbara. They lived in Mitchell where Sylvester worked as an automobile mechanic.  He was sought after by many Mitchell and surrounding area car owners as he was a careful, meticulous mechanic who made sure the car was repaired properly.

Sylvester is survived by his wife Blanche, son David Krell of Mitchell, daughter Judy Kuske (Tom) of Monte Vista, Colorado, daughter Barb Krell of Ogden, Utah, grandchildren Ron (Candace) Kuske, Dan Kuske, Christine (Adam) Soderborg, and two great-grandchildren, Atticus Soderborg and Quinn Kuske.  Also surviving are his three siblings, Vernon Krell of Sonora, California, Vivian Krell Jones of Ashland, Oregon, Leone Krell Bailey of Fullerton, California, and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.
