Susie Knutson 62, Mitchell, died Wednesday July 4th, 2012 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Funeral services will be at 11 am Monday July 9, 2012 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm Sunday July 8, 2012 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 pm. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell (unfortunately not the one in Memphis where Elvis is buried). Susie Knutson, daughter of Delbert and Charlotte (Barker) Knutson of Letcher, SD, was born on October, 28 1949 in Mitchell, SD. In 1968, she graduated from Letcher High School and went onto school at Dakota Wesleyan University, graduating in 1975. Susie dedicated her life to helping people. She worked for the State of South Dakota at the Department of Social Services in Mitchell for 36 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. The two holidays Susie loved most were Christmas and the 4th of July. Susie was very active in her church (Anew United Church of Christ), collected coins, snowmen & TY Beanie Bears (for her granddaughter Ryan). She loved watching Star Wars with her grandson. Years ago, she was an avid race fan for her favorite brother in law David Brooks. She liked watching her grandchildren and step grandchildren participate in sports. In recent years, she was a faithful fan of the women's slow-pitch softball team Brooks' Oil Company. She is survived by her daughter, Rena Helleloid and husband Troy; two grandchildren Ryan and Ren Hoffman; two step grandchildren Sam and Ben Helleloid, all of Mitchell, SD; two sisters, Penny and David Brooks, Letcher, SD; Candy Cross, Mitchell, SD; one brother, Joe Knutson, Letcher, SD. Susie is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, and great nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Bradley (Pete) Knutson and Courtney (Corky) Knutson.
