Stub Harvey, age 71, of Mitchell died August 18, 2006 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital ER. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with burial at a later date. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service starting at 7:00 PM. Stub Harvey, son of Elmer and Inez (Fulmer) Harvey, was born September 22, 1934 in Colman, SD. He grew up on a farm near Elkton and attended country school near Elkton, SD. Stub graduated from Elkton High School in 1952. After his schooling, Stub began working at Red Owl Grocery Store in the Meat Department. In 1960, he established Stubs Meat Market in Brookings, SD and later formed a second store in Elkton, SD. In 1968, Stub opened Dakota House Caf and Dakota Junction in Salem, SD. He later opened Dakota House Caf in Plankinton in 1969 and Dakota House Caf in Vermillion in 1972. He married Colleen (Bartscher) on September 15, 1970 in Sturgis, SD. In 1984 Stub began selling insurance for A.L. Williams. After he sold the restaurants in 1988, Stub sold insurance and investments. In 1994 he semi-retired and later helped his wife, Colleen, with her naturopath business and pursued his unselfish dedication to better the lives of others. Stub was a member of the Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Elks Club. His hobbies included snowmobiling, traveling (especially to Branson, MO), collecting horses, and spending time with family. Stub is survived by his wife, Colleen, Mitchell, SD his children Karen (Dean) Krietlow, Sioux Falls, SD; Kevin (Dawn) Harvey, Brookings, SD; Steve Harvey, Brookings, SD, Kris (Doug) Rahm, Sioux Falls, SD; one brother Ron Harvey; sisters Velma Johnson, Minnesota and Darlene Rankin, Knoxville, IA; 7 grandchildren, Josh, Nicole, Nathan, Lindsay, Jennifer, John and Tara, and many nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild in the spring. He is also survived by many, many dear friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
