Shirley Ann Willey, age 65, of Mt. Vernon, died at her family home on February 19, 2006. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 23, at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery. Shirley was born on May 7, 1940, at Mitchell, South Dakota to Albert and Mary (Dannebring) Kapsch. She was the youngest of seven children. She was confirmed into the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 11, 1954. She graduated from Mitchell Junior High on May 26, 1955. She lived in various towns and states before finally settling in Mitchell. She married Robert Arterberry in 1962. They were divorced in 1971. She married John Willey on July 7, 1981 at Mitchell. She worked various jobs in Mitchell. Shirley was a member of the Legion Auxiliary. She loved to draw, listen to country music, play bingo and enjoyed cats. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, fishing with her husband, John, and sitting, watching the sunset. Her lifelong dream of living in the country came true in 1981, when she and her husband John moved to a small farm north of Mt. Vernon. She is survived by her children: Sherry (Kapsch) Velin and husband, Rick; David E. Arterberry and wife, Darline; Theresa K. Kreth, all of Mitchell; and Dale E. Arterberry, of Yankton; fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren; brother, Floyd Kapsch, Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Louise Hanten and husband, Harold, Omaha, NE and two sisters-in-law, Jen Kapsch, Mitchell, and Rhodora Kapsch, Lincoln, NE and fifteen cats. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, brothers, Hareld, Morris, and Clarence, sister, Irene Fake, brother-in-law, Don Willey and a granddaughter.
