Shirley Bird Wermers, age 74, of Mt. Vernon died June 18 at Covington Heights in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell with burial at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Officiating is Msgr. Marvin McPhee and Deacon Shaun Haggerty as. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday June 20, at the Will Funeral Chapel with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM Shirley was born October 6, 1933 to Edward and Hildagarde (Brech) Freidel. She married Francis Bussy Wermers on November 28, 1950 at Ethan, SD. They farmed in the Mt. Vernon and Alexandria area after their marriage. She was the co-owner of the Wermers Feed and Seed in Mt. Vernon from 1958 to 1990 and also owner operator of Wermers Lounge from 1976 to 1998. She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon and the Moose Lodge. She is survived by one son, Ronald Wermers of Mitchell, two daughters, Mrs. Cindi (Gary) Nitz of Sioux Falls and Sandy Hetland of Mt. Vernon, five grandchildren and three and a half great grandchildren. Three sisters Bonnie Cronkhite, Omaha, NE, Jane (Jim) McCarthy, San Diego, CA; and JoAnn (Duane) Ingram, Polson, MT. Two brothers: Glen (Elaine) Freidel, Mitchell, SD; and Keith (Connie) Freidel, Pierre, SD. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law Susette.
