Shirley Hansen was born December 23, 1933 on a farm located along Highway 38, 7 miles East of Mitchell to Walter and Esther (Milligan) Hansen.

Shirley grew up in the Fulton area living on 3 different farms and attending Garden Prairie country school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1951.

In September 1951 she was united in marriage to her neighbor, Morris Huber. They farmed the Huber farmstead until retiring in 1983. To this union was born, David, Carol and Cathy.

In the fall of 1967 Shirley started working at the Fulton State Bank. She would continue to work at the bank for the next 42 years.

In 1988 Shirley married Curtis Pueppke. They lived on the Pueppke dairy farm 10 miles northeast of Alexandria. They built a new home in 1994 on an acreage a mile South of the farm on the Plano oil.

The acreage became Curt and Shirley's pride and joy. They spent many hours manicuring and taking care of the homestead. They would decorate the acreage as the seasons came and went.

Shirley especially loved Christmas and would decorate each room of the house in a special way. On the outside, Curt and Shirley would light up the entire acreage, trees and all. At the peak they had over 200,000 lights. People would come from miles away to see the spectacular display.

One year the Mitchell Daily Republic did a front page story on them.

Shirley also loved to entertain. She loved to have neighbors, friends, and relatives over to the house for meals and gatherings.

Curt and Shirley loved to do ballroom dancing and would travel across several states attending dances. They especially loved to follow the Lonnie Lynn Orchestra from Wahoo, Nebraska. They would follow the Lynn Orchestra where ever they would perform, across Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa and Illinois. Lonnie and his wife, Denise, became very close personal friends.

After retiring from the dairy farm, Curt and Shirley would spend the winters in Mesa, AZ. They would attend ballroom dances and made many new friends from all over the country.

Curt and Shirley moved to Mitchell in 2018. Curt passed away in 2019. In 2022 Shirley moved to Sterling, CO to be closer to Carol.
