Shirley E. Letcher, age 86, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Alexandria, SD) died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Diamond Care Center, Bridgewater, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Greenhill Cemetery, Alexandria, SD. Visitation will be from 6 PM to 8PM Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Shirley was born on her family farm S/E of Alexandria. She attended Buellah #2 Country School. In 1948 she moved to Alexandria, where she worked at the Alexandria Telephone Office from 1950-1963. She then worked for the Alexandria School District as a Librarian in Farmer and 1964-2000 at the City of Alexandria Library. Shirley retired in Alexandria, and in 2007 she moved to Crystal Manor in Mitchell. In November of 2011 she was moved to Diamond Care Center. Her hobbies included roller skating in her younger years and working as a volunteer driver for elderly women. Grateful to have share her life with her are her two sisters; Fern Huber and Faye Bahmuller both of Alexandria, SD; her twin brother; Sherman Letcher, Mitchell, SD; a sister-in-law, Clara Letcher; brother-in-law, Alton Bahmuller; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins . She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Kenneth and LeRoy; one sister, Leona. Memorials are to be directed to the new city Library in Alexandria.
