Sparrow, Sherry L. (Johnston), age 72, of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina, MN. Sherry was preceded in death by her father Harvey Johnston, and former spouse Clem Sparrow. Sherry is survived by her husband, Richard Andersen, her mother, Igena Johnston, her sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Bob Rudell, her brother Jim Johnston, nieces and spouses, Sarah Rudell Beach and Todd Beach, Amber Rudell and Matt Johnson, and great nieces and nephews Abby, Liam, Casey, and Cooper. She is also survived by stepsons Chase Andersen and spouse Sarah (step great niece, Bella), and Casey Andersen.
Sherry was born March 3, 1946, the daughter of Harvey and Igena Johnston of Mitchell, SD. After graduating from Mitchell High School in 1964, Sherry attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and graduated in 1968 with a degree in zoology. Sherry was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After graduation, Sherry became a flight attendant for World Airways and served on flights to transport US soldiers to and from Vietnam. Sherry then further pursued her education at the University of California – Hayward, where she received her teaching certification. Upon completion of that program she returned to Minneapolis and taught science for three years at North High School. Sherry then made another career change and opened her own business, Sherry's Kitchen and Bath , in the Four Seasons Mall in Plymouth, MN. She later moved the store to Maplewood Mall in St. Paul, MN.
After 10 years as an entrepreneur, Sherry returned to her interest in science as a regulatory affairs manager at Medtronic and later at Boston Scientific in Minneapolis. Upon retirement Sherry continued consulting in regulatory affairs, and also enjoyed gardening and spending more time with her beloved pets. In 2015, Sherry reconnected with her high school sweetheart Rick Andersen and they were married in the summer of 2016 in Mitchell. Sherry and Rick loved spending time with their families, and enjoyed wintering in Florida and summering in Minnesota.
Funeral services will be at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, SD, on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 10:30 AM. Luncheon and visitation to follow at the church, with interment at Graceland cemetery afterwards. Arrangements by Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, SD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Abbott House, Mitchell, SD.
A celebration of Sherry's life will also be held Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Washburn-McReavy Chapel in Edina, MN, with visitation at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM with luncheon to follow.
