Sherman J. Saxton, 83, of Belle Fourche died at his home in Belle Fourche on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 29 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Central Time) at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, South Dakota with Graveside Services following at 2:30 p.m. (Central Time) at the Greenhill Cemetery in Alexandria, South Dakota He was born March 13, 1928 in Alexandria, South Dakota to Stephen and Clara (Sorensen) Saxton. Sherman attended country school in rural Alexandria. Following his education he farmed for a short time, with his brother at Alexandria. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 16, 1951 and was honorably discharged on February 13, 1953. Following his discharge from the army he moved to Belle Fourche and began working at Gillette Dairy and worked for awhile at Homestake Mine. He was also a custodian for several years at the Belle Fourche Post Office, until his retirement. Sherman was a very caring person that was willing to help others. He is survived by a brother, Wayne Saxton of Alexandria, SD; two sisters, Ferne Brimmer of Mitchell, SD and Verda Schulz of Howard, SD; four step-children, Patsy Bunney of Aladdin, WY, Don Tanner, Spike Tanner and Bill Tanner all of Redding, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Visitation was Saturday, November 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
