SeDell M. Hanson, 95, of Mitchell, SD died on February 15, 2010 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD with burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
SeDell Margarite Brewick was born March 11, 1914 in Davison County, SD to John and Belle (Runestad) Brewick. She was baptized on April 12, 1914 and confirmed August 26, 1928 in the Lutheran faith.
SeDell graduated from Letcher High School in 1932. On October 17, 1937, she was married to Ben G. Hanson in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in rural Mt. Vernon, SD. They lived in Avon, SD and Rapid City, SD before moving to Mitchell, SD in 1945. She worked as a sales clerk at Midwest Church Supply in Mitchell for 28 years and retired in 1982. She lived in her home on West Second Avenue for 62 years before moving to Wesley Acres Retirement Home. In 2009 SeDell moved to Sioux Falls.
She became a member of First Lutheran Church, Mitchell, SD in 1945. There she was an active member of First Lutheran Church Women, taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir for 45 years and served on the wedding committee. SeDell was also a member of the Sons of Norway.
SeDell in survived by two sons, Milton Hanson, and his wife, Marjorie, Sioux Falls, SD, David Hanson, and his wife, Georgia, Denver, CO; a daughter, Karen DeJong, and her husband, Rodney, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandsons; three granddaughters; thirteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Hanson on August 18, 1995; her parents; six brothers, Parnell, Merrill, Ivan, Earl, Clair and Emmet; two sisters, Gladys and Lois.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
