John Scott Koltes, 64, Fargo, ND died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Meritcare Hospital, Fargo, ND. A funeral Mass was held in Fargo on Wednesday, May 3, 2006. Visitation was held at Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, from 8:30 to 11:00 AM with a short time of remembrance following the viewing hours. Graveside services were held in Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell with military rites. Scott Koltes was born March 16, 1942, in Mitchell, SD, the son of John E. Jack and Mary Dixon Dixie (Farrell) Koltes. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Mitchell in 1960. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1964. He received his Charter Life Underwriter designation from Purdue University. He served in the Army National Guard in Mitchell, SD and later served on active duty at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He began working as an insurance agent with his father in Mitchell. Scott began selling Lincoln Mutual products as an agent in 1965. In 1969, he joined the Lincoln Mutual home office in Fargo, where he held positions in Underwriting and Marketing prior to becoming president of Lincoln Mutual in 1979. He retired in May 2002, after a career of more than 32 years in the Lincoln Mutual home office and continued to serve on the Board of Directors. He loved life and had an upbeat positive attitude. He was active in numerous organizations. Scott was instrumental in establishing the local chapter of Mankind Project in 1998. He was an officer of the Sand Hill Archery Club, was active in the Fargo-Moorhead YMCA, American Legion Post #2, Elks Club, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Plainsman Black Powder Club, North American Hunting Club, and Cass County Wildlife Club. Scott was also a certified scuba instructor, was an avid hunter, and enjoyed woodworking and music. He is survived by his sister, Diane (Joseph) Henebry, Peachtree City, Georgia; three nephews, Brian, Bobby and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dixie; and his brother, Dick.
