Scott Thomas Jansen, age 60, of Mitchell passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Avera Queen of Peace hospital in Mitchell, SD. A funeral will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, June 17 at Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, SD. The burial will be at 2:00 pm at Graceland Cemetery in Burke, SD on Wednesday, June 17.  Visitation will be from 3 – 7 pm on Tuesday, June 16 at Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, SD.

Scott was born May 13, 1960 to Anna and Charles Jansen in Burke, SD. On September 2, 1978 he married Marilyn Teel.  Scott attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and received his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.  Right after graduation, they moved to Mitchell where Scott got a job with the South Dakota Department of Transportation as a Region Traffic Engineer.  He worked there until his retirement in November of 2019.  Scott and Marilyn's daughter, Molly was born on July 8, 1990.  Molly was a wonderful addition to his family.

Scott loved music. He was a member of numerous bands from the age of 13 on as a drummer.  His musical talents led him to learn the bass guitar, which he played in the United Methodist Church praise band with his wife Marilyn.  Not only did Scott enjoy the praise band, but he loved to play music with his family.  He enjoyed recording and learning about music.  Scott's passion for music was passed on to his daughter.

Scott is survived by his wife, Marilyn Jansen, Mitchell; daughter Molly (Brandon) Manchester, Mitchell; brother, Rick (Carol) Jansen, Cheyanne, WY; sister Stacy (Leo) Westendorf, Winner, SD; mother-in-law Lucille Teel, Burke, SD; step-mother Margaret Blake of Greeley, CO, numerous brother/sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews/nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Charles Jansen, two infant siblings, Kathleen and Richard, and his father-in-law Ralph Teel.
