S. Marie Fristad, 85, of Palatka, Florida, formerly of Mitchell, SD, died September 20, 2006 at Palatka Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 27 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Servicemens Memorial Cemetery. S. Marie Fristad was born on May 17, 1921, in Funkley, MN to Tonetta and Kolbin Hanson. She grew up on a farm, the youngest of five children and attended elementary and high school in Bemidji, MN. She graduated from Business College in Minneapolis, MN and eventually moved to Portland, OR, with her parents. Marie married Melvin O. Fristad on July 14, 1947, at Evangelical United Brethren Church, Portland, OR. They moved from Portland, shortly after the birth of their first son, John, to a farm southwest of Woonsocket, SD. They farmed for several years and had three more children; Jerry, Jim and Judy. They moved to Mitchell in 1974. She worked various jobs including secretary for the Church of the Nazarene and most recently for Dr. Gebhart. She was a member of Northridge Baptist and Wesleyan Churches. Survivors include three sons: John Fristad and wife, Michele, Pierson, FL; Jerry Fristad and wife, Twyla, Villa Rica, GA; Jim Fristad and wife, Rhonda, Dallas, GA; and daughter Judy and husband, Bob Cronin, Houston, TX; six grandchildren,Kelley Rae, Candice Lynn, Amanda Marie, Kristin Lynn, Jim Stanley Jr., Lindsey Michelle; and three great grandchildren, Austin Jacob, Cainar Jerico, Addison Marie. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, one sister, Adele Judson, and three brothers, Selmer, Stan and Harbey Hanson.
