Obituary

Ruby Sharkey, age 93, of Mitchell, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, March 24 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Will Funeral Chapel with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Ruby was born on March 3, 1918 to Lewis and Ada (Didier) Duggan in Wewela, SD. She grew up in Tripp County and graduated from Colome High School. On September 3, 1936 she married Vincent F. Sharkey in Corona, CA. The couple later moved back to Tripp County where they farmed near Clearfield until 1956. While in Tripp County Ruby taught music and gave many lessons. The couple moved to Mitchell where she worked in clothing retail at Buches, JcPennys, and Bostwicks while still giving music lessons. She also shared her music by playing the organ in church and was organist at many other functions. After Vincents death in 1979 she continued to teach music and give lessons on my different instruments. She was a member of Holy Family Church, formerly Catholic Daughters, and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed doing artwork like, painting, ceramics, and many more.

She is survived by 5 children: Bette Blankenship (Richard) of Mitchell, SD, Bonnie Arend of Alexandria, SD, Donald Sharkey (Susan) of Upton, WY, Maryanne Graff (Kenneth) of Spearfish, SD and Richard Sharkey (Shari Schnuelle) of Grand Island, NE. 11 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 sisters: Maxine Donovan and Leota Jerred; and a son in law Donald Arend.
