Ruby Mason, 69, of Mitchell, SD died Saturday July 17, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at the Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene in Mitchell. Visitation will be Thursday, from 7 to 9 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Mitchell. She was born January 13, 1935, in Rapid City, SD, to Edward and Mary (Lobdell) Couch. She attended school at Beaver Creek country school, Winner High School and attended Dakota Wesleyan University. She started working as a nanny to support herself so she could go to high school and after that worked as a waitress for many years in Winner Ruby married Ted Mason on March 28, 1953, in Pierre. They moved from Winner to Amherst, Ohio and then to Elyria, Ohio. In 1959, they moved to Roswell, and shortly after they moved to Mitchell. She lived in her present home for thirty eight years. She worked as a waitress at Courts Caf, now the Cenex building on Havens. Ruby then taught Head Start for fourteen years; worked at Syncom for ten years and I-90 for the last eight years. She was an avid bowler for twenty-five years and was a Girl Scout leader for over ten years. She is survived by her children: Pam Stransky and husband, Lou, Melanie Gaunt and Mary Pollreisz and husband, Rich, all of Mitchell; Rick Mason and wife, Terrie, Sioux City, Iowa; Henry Mason and wife, Karen, Onawa, Iowa; Barb Descombaz, Battle Creek, Nebraska; and Dave Mason and wife, Dawn, Sioux City, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren; one brother, Basil Couch, Sterling, Colorado; and sisters, Ella Hayford, Sturgis; Lois Warrington, Coos Bay, Oregon, Faye Applegate, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jean Edwards, Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; her parents; a son, Teddy in 1980; a great granddaughter, Lacey Ahlers; a brother, Earl and three sisters, Vera Browning, Hazel Ice and Lorraine Smith.
