Rosalie Nicolaisen, 97, of Mt. Vernon, SD, went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 24, 2021.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Will Funeral Chapel.  Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Will Funeral Chapel.

Rosalie was born on June 23, 1924 on the family farm near Alpena, SD, to Richard and Helen (Knox) Hollingsworth.  After graduating from Alpena High School, she enrolled in the Dakota Wesleyan University School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1947 and then taught nursing briefly at the Mitchell Methodist Hospital.

She met Daniel Nicolaisen, of Mt. Vernon, while they were both in college, and they married on her 24 th birthday.  Shortly thereafter they moved to the farm and she began the "career" she loved for decades; being a farm wife and mother.  Daniel and Rosalie had seven children (Timothy, Marcia, Beth, Richard, William, Alan, and Sandra).  Rosalie was an avid gardener and had an amazing green thumb.  She found jot and fulfillment in providing for her family from the crops of her large garden, which seemed to grow larger every year.  Her other hobbies included reading, staying up-to-date on current events, baking, sewing and spending time with friends and family.  Her greatest joy was raising their seven children and spending time with her fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; whose visits to grandma's house may have been more frequent because of her never-ending supply of home baked cookies.

As her faith was a constant guiding light in her life, she enjoyed being of service to the Mitchell Wesleyan Church for many years; serving as a Sunday School teacher and a Bible Study leader.  She especially liked using her artistic talent to make posters for various events and fundraisers of the church and was a mentor for Crossroads Prison Ministries.

Rosalie is survived by two sisters; Joan (Burt) Pryor and Phoebe (Joel) Molyneux, daughter-in-law, Ginny (Tim) Nicolaisen of Gelndale, AZ, Children; Marcia Nicolaisen of Gelndale, AZ, Beth (Jim) Jelden of Mitchell, SD, Richard Nicolaisen of Mt. Vernon, SD, Bill Nicolaisen of Mt. Vernon, SD, Alan (Synova) Nicolaisen of Black Hawk, SD, and Sandy (Scott) Hoyt of Storm Lake, IA, grandchildren; Heather (Kevin) Kittredge, Holly (Jason) Clark, Michelle (Tom) Schellberg, Chris (Stephanie) Nicolaisen, Josh (Lacey) Nicolaisen, Kristen (Charles) Kramer, Spencer Nicolaisen, Emily (Jordan) Hanson, Luke Nicolaisen, Madi Nicolaisen, Lexi Nicolaisen, Riley Shelgren, Reid Shelgren, Ryker Shelgren, seven  great-grandchildren, and numerous other special nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, oldest son, Tim, and five of her seven siblings, Bruce Hollinsworth, Evan Hollingsworth, Rodney Hollingsworth, Rachael Whitworth and David Hollingsworth.
