Ronald Lachnit, age 76, of Mitchell, died Saturday, February, 16 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 22 at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell with burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, February 21 with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel. Ronald Eugene Lachnit was born November 17, 1931 to Harlan and Frances (Paulus) Lachnit. He attended Mitchell grade school and Notre Dame High School. Ronald was confirmed at the Victor Lutheran Church, Mt. Vernon. He married Eunice Johnson on April 26, 1953 at Victor Lutheran Church. They lived in Mitchell till 1958 while working for the Becker Roofing Co. Ron was then transferred to the Sioux Falls branch and the family lived in Crooks, SD. In February of 1961, Ron started working for Schoenemans Lumber Co., Mitchell, and the family moved to rural Mt. Vernon to live with Eunices mother. In January 1962 Ron started working for Ross Laboratories. The family moved to Mitchell in June 1964. The plant closed and he then worked for Montgomery Wards in the shipping department. The family grew up during these years with graduations, marriages and grandchildren. He was a very hard worker and such a loving father. He loved to tease the grandkids. Ron worked for Milwaukee Railroad for five years. He then began employment at the Dakota Pork Industries from 1980 till his semi-retirement in 1997. Ron then worked part time till they closed in December 2005. After his retirement he found time to really enjoy his yard. He planted flowers and did his own yard work. He was a current member of the First Lutheran Church. Ron was devoted to his family and friends. He was a very caring husband and friend to his wife, Eunice. He took very good care of her through all of her health problems and now they are reunited together at last in heaven. He is survived by one daughter, Jolene Enfield and husband, Jim, Letcher; three sons, Craig and wife Margaret, Mitchell; Mike and wife Marcia, Alexandria; and Dave and wife Julie, Mitchell; along with 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; one granddaughter, Melissa Lachnit, and his mother and step-father.
