Obituary

Ronald L. Kight age 79, of Mitchell, died Monday, December 14, 2015 at Firesteel Health Care Center. The Funeral Mass for the repose of the soul of Ronald L. Kight will be prayed on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service followed by a rosary at 6:30 PM. Burial will be in Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery.

Ronald L. Kight was born to Lloyd and Rose Mary (Kraft) Kight on September 10, 1936 in Aberdeen, SD, where he graduated from Central High School in 1954. He enlisted in the US Army in 1956 and served until 1959. He started work as a City Letter Carrier in 1959 until 1974. He married Mary Ann Kessler on November 13, 1962. Ron was promoted to Supervisor and later as Assistant Postmaster in Aberdeen in 1974. In October 1978, Ron was promoted to Postmaster in Mitchell, SD.

While living in Aberdeen, he was active in the Elks Club, where he was a member of the Elks Chorus for four years. He served on various committees at the Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the Church Chorus for 16 years.

While in Mitchell, Ron served as Scoutmaster for Troop 72 from 1985-1991. He was a member of the Rotary Club for 14 years, where he served as President for a year. He was a member of the local Postmasters International for 19 years and was also member of the SD Branch of Postmasters League of Postmasters. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ron is survived by his wife Mary Kight, Mitchell, SD; two children, Janet Kight, Big Spring, TX, and Daniel (Jennifer) Kight, Huron, SD; grandchildren Lena (Tysen) Parker, Huron, SD, Brianna Kight, Big Spring, TX, and Erika Kight, Huron, SD; great-grandchildren Daniel, Hunter, and Addisen Parker, Huron, SD; and brother Dick Kight, Nolanville, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.
