Obituary

Ronald D. Ackman age 82, of Mitchell died Friday, January 31, 2014 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date. Ronald Dale Ackman was born April 12, 1931 to Kenneth and Wilhelmina Ackman in Willow Lake, SD. He moved to Hazel, SD in 1945. He attended school in Willow Lake until he moved to Hazel where he attended school through 9th grade. At that time he went to work on farms in the Hazel area. At 18 he entered the Navy and served year. On April 12th, 1951 he married Shirley Struckman in Hazel, SD. In 1951 their first child was born and in 1952 they all moved to Lead, SD where Ron worked in the gold mine. In 1953 they moved back to Hazel and worked on his father-in-laws farm. While working on the farm their other three children were born. In 1958 the whole family moved to Hayti, SD where he worked for Hamlin County Road Crew. In 1962 he started working for Lindekugel Construction Company. Then in 1964 the whole family moved to Mitchell SD. In 1968 he bought Ron's Magneto Shop where he worked until he retired in 2011. In 1970 their fifth child, Scott Ackman, moved in and they officially adopted him in 2004. His hobbies were spending time with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Shirley Ackman, MItchell, SD, five children; Bob Ackman (Mary), Letcher SD, Deb Ackman, Mitchell SD, Scott Ackman, Bradenton, FL, Robin Ackman (Joyce) MItchell SD, Roxie Ackman, Mitchell SD and foster child Teresa Deurmier, Mitchell SD. His ten grandchildren Jermey Ackman (Nikole), Jerid Ackman (Kristy), Randa Bickett (Aaron), Paul Ackman (Jenny), Chad Ackman, Kyle Ackman, Elizabeth Buice (Todd), Jason Ackman (Tristen), Matt Ackman, Brittany Royston (Joe). And his twenty great grandchildren plus one great great grandchild on the way; brothers and sisters, Howard (Dorothy)Ackman, NY, Sally Ackman, AZ, Carl Ackman, FL, Jim (June) Ackman, Groton, SD, Nancy (Don) Sharp, Mitchell, SD, Janet (Kenny) Mayne, TX and Vickie Ackman, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents,one brother, and a great granddaughter, Ashley Ackman
