Roger V. Hill age 83, of Mt.Vernon, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday at Storla Lutheran Church in Storla. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be in Victor Lutheran Church Cemetery with military rites. Pastor Erika Lehmann will be officiating. Roger V. Hill was born May 1, 1930 in Aurora County to Barney and Hilda (Worra) Hill. He attended Letcher schools and graduated Letcher High School in 1948. On August 19, 1951 he was united in marriage to Earlyne M. Ruhberg at Victor Lutheran Church. In September of 1951 he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict and returned home and was honorably discharged September of 1953. The couple farmed and lived in Davison Co. for 16 years and Aurora Co. for 61 years. Roger was a member of the Storla Lutheran Church, Mt. Vernon American Legion for over 50 years and the VFW in Plankinton. He enjoyed collecting tools and one his greatest pleasures in his life was his family. Grateful for sharing his life are his son Terry Hill and friend Georgia Bennett of Woonsocket, SD; brother Glen (Vina) Hill of Yankton, SD; grandchildren Dr. Kerri Hill of Laguna Beach, CA and Eric Hill of Sioux Falls, SD; brother in law Harold Wilson of Armour, SD; step grandchildren Kristina (Kevin) Schlenker of Woonsocket, SD and Kurt Larson of Sioux Falls; step great grandsons Kadin and Kylie Schlenker of Woonsocket; sister-in-law Vera Hill of Mitchell, SD; brother-in-law Gary Earl of Mt. Vernon, SD. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Randy Dean in 2003; two brothers Berdean in 1995, Norris in 1999; sister Murlene Wilson in 2006.
