Robin R. Ackman, age 60, of Mitchell died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Avera Queen of Peace ER. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, August 24, 2015 at First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Sunday, August 23, 2015 at First Lutheran Church with sharing memories at 7:00 PM. Arrangements are under direction with the Will Funeral Chapel. Robin R Ackman, son of Shirley (Struckman) Ackman and the late Ronald Ackman, was born October 29, 1954 in Watertown, SD. He lived in Hayti, SD until 1964 and then moved to Mitchell, SD. He attended schools in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High in 1972. He graduated from Dakota Wesleyan in 1983 with a degree in Business Administration and was employed at McFarland Supply for nearly 32 years. He was united in marriage with Joyce Kreth in 1978. To this union were born two sons, Jason in 1979, and Matthew in 1983. Robin was an active member in the athletic community. He was involved in youth coaching for baseball, basketball, and football and was an avid sports fan. During his youth he participated in wrestling, football, and baseball. During his athletic career, Robin received many accolades; one being named to the SDIC All Conference team in 1981 as a freshman at DWU finishing 3rd in the league with a .500 batting average. Thirty-five years ago he was named to the SD Amateur Baseball All-Star team as a 3rd baseman. Robin devoted countless hours to Mitchell baseball and spent many seasons playing 3rd base for Commercial Bank which lead to his induction in the South Dakota Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010. He was one of the founding members of the Mitchell Baseball Association and watching Cadwell Park develop into what it is today, brought him great pride. His wife, Joyce spent many anniversaries watching the State Tournament by his side there. The only thing that may have brought Robin more joy than a good ball game was the birth of his grandsons, River and Harvey. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Joyce, sons Jason (Tristen) and Matthew. Brothers Bob (Mary), Scott, and sisters Deb and Roxie. His mother Shirley Ackman and his grandsons River and Harvey Ackman. He was proceeded in death by his father, Ronald Ackman in 2014.
