Robert R. Ruml, age 87, of Letcher died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Firesteel Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Letcher Community Church in Letcher. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery rural Letcher with military rites. Robert Russel Ruml was born on a farm at Letcher, South Dakota on April 9th, 1927 to George and Anna Justra Ruml. He recently celebrated his 87th birthday. He has three living siblings. He attended Stekl Rural School in Butler Township for his first eight grades. He graduated from Letcher High School in 1945. He has been a farmer all his life except for two years he spent in the Army Signal Corps from 1951 to 1953. He kept himself very busy in many activites. He was a director for thirty-seven years for Intercounty and Central Electric and a director thirty-four years for East River Power. He also was a director for Farmers Elevator and served on the Butler Township Board and the Butler Rural School Board. He was a committee member on the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, a 4-H member and leader, and a sixty-one year member of the American Legion. He was a trustee and clerk for UCC Church. He liked to participate in crop shows and exhibited at the state fair. He even was Santa for a few years for the Legion and Storla Sunset home. He married Shirley Larson of Mt. Vernon on March 14th, 1954. They recently celebrated sixty years of marriage. They had five children, Owen, Mark, Julie, Scott and Randy (deceased). He is blessed with 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Shirley, four children, Owen Ruml of Letcher, Mark (Kathy) of Mitchell, Julie (Phil) Allred of Ephraim Utah and Scott (Susan) of Freeman; two sisters, Verla Hoing of Kimball, Lois Clarambeau of Letcher, and a brother, Lawrence of Letcher; sister and brother in law Margaret and DeWayne Weiland of Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Anna Ruml; one son, Randy, one granddaughter, Amber, one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; his father and mother-in-law Olaf and Lizzie Larson; brothers-in-law Alvin Hoing and Alton Clarambeau, sister-in-law Karen Ruml and his brother Burton.
