Robert J. Roth, age 84 of Mitchell, died Tuesday February 10, 2009 at Prairie Crossings Assisted Living. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday February 14, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Will Funeral Chapel with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Robert J. Roth, son of Theodore and Lena (Degan) Roth, was born August 13, 1924 at home in rural Parkston, SD. He grew up on the family farm in rural Parkston and received his education in the Dimock, SD area. After his schooling, Bob, worked on the family farm for two years.

Bob was united in marriage with Mabel Stampe on February 7, 1944 in Parkston, SD. The couple farmed west of Parkston for five years and then farmed near Stickney, SD. In 1955 they moved to a farm northeast of Mitchell and Bob continued to farm there his entire life. He continued to live on the farm until health concerns made him move off the farm.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge and was a DeKalb Seed salesman for 20 years. Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends and family gatherings. Bob loved the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Mabel especially enjoyed polka dancing and did so for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Roth on July 2, 2002; and a son, Randall on October 2, 2000; two brothers, Fred and Edward Roth; two sisters, Florence Graff and Delores Weber.
